May 7-9, 2018 in Geneva (Switzerland) was held the meeting of the Expert Group on Consumer Price Indices (CPI). This event was organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in conjunction with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

B.Irgashev (State Committee on Statistics), Head of the Department for External Economic Activities and Trade Statistics, participated in the Meeting of the Expert Group.

Also, in the meeting participated representatives of the national statistical services of the CIS countries and abroad, as well as experts from UNECE, IMF, Eurostat and the World Bank.

The main objective of the meeting was to exchange experience between national statistical offices in the field of compiling CPI, to promote the development and implementation of best practices, as well as international recommendations in the field of CPI. The main focus was on new sources of data, methodological issues of price consistency in selected sectors of the economy, understanding and satisfaction of different user needs, use of quantitative indicators, updating the CPI Manual for 2004. During the meeting, the present and future problems in the calculation of the CPI were analyzed.
