As previously reported, the 73rd Plenary Session of the Conference of European Statisticians, initiated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), took place from June 16 to 18 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The session was attended by heads of national statistical offices from 54 countries, along with representatives of 15 international organizations.
The conference addressed pressing issues such as the modernization of official statistics, the definition of strategic directions, the use of digital technologies and big data, as well as preparations for the 2030 round of population and housing censuses.
Amidst the rapid transformations in the field of statistics, the acceleration of digitalization processes, the growing complexity of information flows, and the increasing demand for reliable data, this conference served as a vital platform for setting the strategic directions of national and international statistical systems.
The delegation of the State Committee on Statistics of Uzbekistan participated in the conference, presenting ongoing reforms in the development of the national statistical system. Topics included accelerating integration processes regarding administrative data, optimizing household sample survey questionnaires, ensuring transparency of official statistics, and increasing statistical literacy among the population through effective cooperation with the public, journalists, and bloggers.
In addition, analytical overviews related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were presented within the framework of the session.
The new composition of the Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians was elected, and information was shared on the activities of the High-Level Group for the Modernisation of Official Statistics.
The conference became a key international dialogue platform for implementing modern statistical approaches, strengthening cooperation among countries, and developing coordinated responses to current statistical challenges.
During the visit, the delegation of the State Committee on Statistics of Uzbekistan held bilateral meetings with the Head of the Statistics Division of the UNECE, the Director of EUROSTAT, and heads of the statistical offices of Canada, Armenia, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Ireland, and Mexico, as well as representatives of the International Monetary Fund and other international organizations.
The outcomes of these discussions will contribute to the development of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics for 2026–2030, achieving higher performance in the “Statistical Performance Indicators” index, and transforming the State Committee on Statistics by further aligning methodologies with the principles and recommendations of international organizations.
