Uzbekistan:

 is situated in the center of Eurasia on the Great Silk Route, serving in a certain sense as the gates between the East and the West;

 borders on five states: Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgizstan and Afghanistan stretching for 6221 km2;
proclaimed its state independence on August 31, 1991;
in the administrative-territorial regard is composed of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, 12 regions and its capital Tashkent.
  ITS Territory:
comprises 448,9 thousand km2 which accounts for 0,3% of all dry land of the Earth, ranking 55th in size among the countries of the world;
more than 2/3 is composed of plains (Turan lowland, Fergana valley, basins of the Amudarya, Sirdarya, Zarafshan rivers and their tributaries) and 1/3 of its mountains and hills (the Tyanshan spurs, the Gissaro-Alay)/
Natural resources 
of Uzbekistan are huge, diverse, give favorable conditions for the economy. Their important components are:
in industry - huge stocks of minerals (over 2700 deposits and perspective 100 odd types of mineral raw materials);
in agriculture - massive fertile lands, pastures, considerable sun-light, plenty water resources;
in the sphere of tourism and recreation - magnificent landscapes, favorable climate, salubrious sources of mineral water.

POPULATION

POPULATION OF UZBEKISTAN:
amounted to 25 million people at the beginning of the 21-th century - approximately 0,4% of planet's population and ranks 39th in the world;
has a positive dynamics of increase of population (1,6% a year) which is higher than the average world dynamics (1,4%);
almost 3/5 of the population are rural and 2/5 are urban (the biggest cities of Uzbekistan include Tashkent, Samarkand, Namangan, Andijan, Bukhara, Fergana, Nukus, Kokand, Karshi);
in polyethnic terms (more than 100 nationalities, which have equal civil rights and possibilities);
3/4 of the population consists of the nation that gave the country its name. Uzbek people contributed greatly to the development of civilization, it was always devoted to the native hearth, principles of social validity. It has such perfect qualities as spiritual independence, generosity of soul, hospitality, mercy, goodwill. A special respect for knowledge, craftsmanship, tireless diligence, ability for creativity, thoughtfulness in making decisions, i.e. all qualities, which are necessary for a dynamic economic growth are know far outside the republic as the qualities inherent in its people.
   
LABOR RESOURCES OF UZBEKISTAN 
of Uzbekistan are remarkable by a high level of educational and intellectual development;
the level of literacy of the adult population in the republic makes up 99,1%;
1/4 of population which is involved in material production has higher and secondary professional education;
the research of the Uzbek scientists in the sphere of mathematics, biology, physics, etc. are famous far abroad;
   

Position among the countries of the world

   
 THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN
is considered quite a remarkable country, which holds important  positions among more than 200 odd countries of the world in many parameters of resource and industrial potential.
Holding the 55-th position in territory and the 39-th position in population, Uzbekistan is:
 also among the world leaders in the natural stocks of silver and tungsten, phosphorite, potassium, rare metals and other valuable minerals, in particular, in the proved reserves of gold - the 4-th position, uranium - the 7-th position, molybdenum - the 8-th position, in the confirmed stocks of copper - the 10-th position, natural gas - the 14-th position in the world;
in the area artificially irrigated lands - the 11-th position in the world;
in the production of cadmium - the 3-rd position, uranium - the 6-th position, gold and natural gas - the 8-th position, and is also among fifteen largest countries of the planet in the extraction of molybdenum, feldspar and some other kinds of industrial raw materials;
in the production of astrakhan - 2-nd position, seed-cotton - 5-th position, raw silk - 6-th position in the world;
in the second ten of countries leading in release of a sulphuric acid, nitrogen fertilizers, lubricating oils and parathion, cotton yarn and fabrics, tomato paste, dried fruit, harvest of watermelons and grapes, wool clipping, rail road freight turnover;
in cotton lint export - the 2-nd position, uranium - the 3-rd position in the world.
